104 - Battlezone

Year: 1980
Platform(s): Arcade
Designer(s): Ed Rotberg
Developer: Atari
Publisher: Atari

"The granddaddy of all "space sims," Battlezone was one of the earliest arcade hits, coming out in 1980. Using green-and-black wireframe graphics, Battlezone had a sort of Tron-like look before Tron, but also required tactical acumen (especially with regard to the use of your physical environment), sharp reflexes, killer aim, and a steady hand to win defeat the hordes of enemy tanks, super tanks, and other jerkwads the CPU threw at you. The arcade cabinet had all sorts of innovations, including dual joystick controls (with integrated buttons) and a crazy, periscope-like viewfinder to play the game through." - GameSpy
