"Here is a game that is not without its problems. Its plot is a bewildering mess. It contains scenes that any sane editor would have cut in a heartbeat. The controls give you vast amounts of freedom, but the level design is weirdly linear -- one trip through the game is often much the same as another. It has a clumsy, fumbling combat system that seems designed mainly as punishment for players who fail to sneak effectively. . . [However] it has moments of visual impact that are as powerful as absolutely anything in the history of gaming. . . The most underrated quality inside Sons of Liberty, though, might be the game's sense of humor. There are a slew of hilarious meta-textual gags hidden all around its world, plus a few moments where it does an improbably good job of almost making you think it has gone crazy." - IGN
