Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

88 - Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Platform(s): PC / GameCube / PlayStation 2 / Xbox
Designer(s): Patrice Désilets & Jordan Mechner
Developer: Ubisoft Montreal
Publisher: Ubisoft

"The reinvention of Prince of Persia in 3D was a significant gameplay milestone for the industry. Why? Well, suddenly we went from running and jumping, grappling and shimmying, to far more acrobatic and interesting movement, such as wall-running, wall jumping, swinging off poles and erm, jumping off columns. The point is, of course, that it felt liberating, and the levels were designed to be both a physical puzzle to overcome, and a playground for the Prince. And just as importantly from a gameplay perspective, Prince of Persia introduced the Sands of Time which enabled players to rewind mistakes, thus making navigating the environments much less frustrating than it would be otherwise. Throw in some decent combat and you have one of the most playable – and important – games on Xbox." - IGN Australia
