"[The] PlayStation wasn't supposed to be good at 2D games, yet, in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, it had what is arguably one of the best 2D side-scrolling adventure games of all time. The graphics were phenomenal, the music is some of the best you'll ever hear in a videogame and the gameplay and control is just...well, perfect. The game was a true testament to the fact that 2D games should never die, even though it looks like they just might." - Dave Zdyrko, IGN
